Cameron: 1 Month

My littlest guy turned 6 months old this week already!  Hard to believe how quickly the time is flying by-- those early newborn days do not seem so far away!  I've been saving up these monthly updates because the control freak in me wanted to get his birth story written and published first (gotta do things in the proper order!)  So forgive the lateness, but I'll be posting some Cameron photos and highlights from each of the last 6 months in the coming weeks.

  • Born on August 21, 2015 (one day early), weighing 3.21 kg (7.08 lb) and 51 cm (20 inches) long, at RIPAS hospital in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.
  • Came home from the hospital the next day (due date) and visited by a midwife at home every day for the first week.
  • Sleeping: Cameron seemed to be a natural, he slept for a 6.5 hour stretch at night at 12 days old, and by 3 weeks old was consistently sleeping 4-5 hour stretches at night, usually going to bed around 9 p.m., waking once around 2-3 a.m., and again around 6-7 a.m.  More on how I approached dealing with Cameron's sleep in the first few weeks here.
  • Eating: Exclusive breastfeeding, every 2-3 hours during the day and every 4-5 hours at night (after week 3).  A relatively easy transition for me back to nursing, Cameron nursed well and frequently from the get go.  Around 2 weeks old we divided the night into two shifts and Justin gave a pumped bottle during one of the night/early morning feedings and I'd nurse during the other(s). We slept in separate bedrooms for a couple weeks so whoever was "off duty" could get better sleep.  This sharing of the nighttime work load along with Cameron being a better sleeper in general made a world of difference and I didn't even come close to the zombie-like sleep deprived state that I was in for the first few months with James.
  • New This Month: First bath at home on day 3, he didn't hate it.  First bottle around 2 weeks old.  First smiles at 4 weeks old, the best!!! :) :) :)  Got to meet Grandma and Grandpa Olson for the first time right before he turned 1 month old!
  • Likes/Dislikes/Habits: A fussier baby than James was, but nothing crazy.  Our best guess was he had more of a sensitive stomach and was more bothered by gas/trapped burps after eating.  Really liked his pacifier and much to my surprise didn't mind a little tummy time.
